PCMG Gardens and Projects

Be sure to visit our demonstration at various locations throughout the area. Also, be sure to stop by our Photo page to see some photos from our gardens/events and our Classes page to see upcoming educational opportunities!

Watch the local Herald Citizen for announcement of our upcoming events.

Master Gardeners can often be found at various public venues. If you have a gardening question, please feel free to ask anyone with a name tag designating them as a Putnam County Master Gardener.

Projects and Education in the Community

Ag In The Classroom
This annual event in March pairs Master Gardeners with 1st grade students who learn how to plant a seed properly. The children delight in this activity and as an added bonus they get to take their seedling home. Average attendance is 1,200 students.
Upper Cumberland Home & Garden Show
Master Gardens host seminars on various gardening subjects. We also have a booth full of gardening information and information on our upcoming classes. Annual event in March.
Girl Scout Service Day
Every April the Girl Scouts descend upon Burgess Falls State Park. With the help of Master Gardeners they plant native shrubs, prepare the Butterfly Garden for the growing season, and mulch. It’s amazing how much these girls accomplish in one day!
Putnam County Fair
Be sure to stop by our building at the Fairgrounds filled with educational and beautiful displays. Lots of gardening information is available and you are sure to find some great ideas that will work in your own back yard. First weekend in August.
Annual Plant Sale
Held in late April, the plant sale comes at the perfect time for planting a variety of annuals, perennials, and vegetable plants.  The plant sale provides locally grown, healthy plants at an affordable price for members in the community.  All proceeds from the sale are used to support other PCMG projects in the community.
White Plains Academy Support Garden
This project pairs Master Gardeners with the students of White Plains Academy to create and maintain a productive vegetable garden.  This project provides children with hands on learning experience, and is a rewarding project for all involved.

Putnam County Library
In 2012/2013, PCMG has paired with the Putnam County Library to test the soil, plan, design, and install various garden around the exterior of the building.
